NASA recently sounded the alarm about potential existential threats looming over our planet, echoing the dire warnings once issued by renowned physicist Stephen Hawking.
Hawking made the alarming predictions in 2018, two weeks prior to his death, and now NASA’s announcement is bringing his timeline back into the spotlight.
In The Search for a New Earth, Hawking warned that unless humanity changes its ways, by 2600 the planet would turn into a gigantic ball of fire.
He attributed this frightening forecast to the effects of global warming, climate change, and the greenhouse effect as the main culprits behind Earth’s potential downfall.
While NASA has confirmed Hawking’s theory, they have not provided a specific expiration date for our planet. However, they caution that if human consumption of energy resources continues unabated, our end could come much sooner than anticipated.
Despite this, NASA remains committed to its prevention programs aimed at safeguarding Earth from both terrestrial and extraterrestrial threats.
Climate change also poses a significant risk to wildlife, with sloths potentially facing extinction by 2100. An interactive map of New York reveals the extensive ‘damage’ that climate change could cause by the end of the century.

In recent years, NASA has launched a new program that enables it to pinpoint potential threats to Earth, like asteroid impacts.
It also persistently investigates climate change to lessen its effects and allocate resources for Earth observation.
